Tempura how to make Japanese shrimp Tempura recipe at home. Japanese make a dish with battered seafood or vegetables and deep fried them in hot oil. And the dish is termed as Tempura. The batter will be prepared by soft wheat flour and light batter. To this batter baking soda or baking powder, eggs, starch, oil, spices may also be added. The tempura batter can be mixed with using chop sticks for only a few seconds. If we over mix the batter the flour mixture become dough like and chewy when the tempura fried in oil. In the preparation of tempura the vegetables or seafood are dipped in batter and deep fried in hot oil. The oil temperature commonly kept between 160 and 180 degrees. In the seafood tempura shrimp tempura is the most popular dish for Japanese. The tempura is generally served with grated Daikon. The tempura will be eat immediately after frying. The Japanese serve the tempura with the bowls of soba or udon soup. Japanese most common and popular sauce for tempura is Tentsuyu sauce. The tempura will be sprinkled with sea salt before eating. The dish tempura is also a combination with other foods. The shrimp tempura is served over steamed rice in a bowl and on top of the udon soup.

Ingredients for tempura

  1. Large shrimps – 10
  2. Corn starch – 4 tbsp for dusting
  3. Oil – for deep fry
  4. 1 cup egg + cold water
  5. All purpose flour -1 cup
  6. Ingredients for tempura sauce
  7. Dashi -3/4 cup
  8. Soy sauce -2 tbsp
  9. Mirin -2 tbsp
  10. Sugar – 2 tbsp
  11. Daikon radish – 5 cm grated and squeeze liquid out

Japanese shrimp Tempura recipe Preparation 

Step 1
For the preparation of tempura sauce take a sauce pan and combine the dashi, soy sauce, mirin and sugar. Bring the content to a boil. Put the flame on low and simmer it until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove the content from the flame and keep it aside.
Step 2
In a deep fryer take oil and heat it on 170 degrees. For the preparation of tempura batter take the flour into a large bowl. In another bowl add the egg into cold water. Beat the egg mixture and remove the form on the surface. Put the egg mixture into the flour mix the content. Do not over mix the batter. Keep the batter aside for few minutes. 
Step 3
Dust the corn starch on the shrimps. Take the dusted shrimps using chop sticks and dip them in batter and deep fry the shrimps in hot oil until golden brown. In a plate grate the daikon and squeeze the liquid out. Take the hot shrimp tempura in a serving plate and serve the shrimp tempura with warm tempura sauce and grated daikon.
