Pulihora is a famous festival food in India. It is a very common recipe in Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Telangana especially in Indian cuisine. Pulihora is also termed as tamarind rice. In Andhra Pradesh during festivals this recipe can distributed as a prasadam in temples. Sreeramanavami is one of the big festivals in India. In that day the pulihora is packed in covers and gives them to people. In Indian cuisine tamarind is one of the most famous ingredients using for recipes. The pulihora is prepared with tamarind, green chillies, lemon, curry leaves, turmeric, coriander leaves and asafoetida. Turmeric gives perfect color to the recipe. Asafoetida gives beautiful taste to pulihora. The taste of pulihora is spicy, sour and mouth watering taste. Mostly every people eat pulihora because of its flavor.

Pulihora Recipe Ingredients

  1. Rice – 1 cup
  2. Water – 2 cups
  3. Oil – 2 tbsp
  4. Red chillies – 3
  5. Green chillies – 2
  6. Curry leaves – few
  7. Chana dal - 1 tbsp
  8. Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  9. Peanuts – 1 tbsp
  10. Mustard seeds – ½ tbsp
  11. Hing – 1 tbsp
  12. Tamarind – a big lemon size
  13. Salt to taste
  14. Chopped coriander

Pulihora Recipe Preparation

Step 1

Soak the tamarind in water for 10 minutes. Squeeze the tamarind and make a thick and fine paste. Remove the pulps from the paste. Wash the rice and cook till done. Put the prepared hot rice in a plate and season with salt and 1 tbsp of turmeric powder. Keep it aside.

Step 2

Take non stick pan heat oil and add chana dal, urad dal, mustard seeds and peanuts. Fry them on low flame for gently. Now add red chillies and green chillies fry them for one minute. Add curry leaves and mix the content well. Now add one tbsp of hing for taste. Add tamarind paste and a little bit of salt for the content. Cook the content till it becomes thick. Remove the pan from flame. Now put the content on prepared rice. Mix the whole rice gently. Finally take a serving bowl and serve the pulihora and garnish it with chopped coriander. Curd is the best and perfect combination for pulihora.
