Chicken Souvlaki Gyro Style recipe ingredients:


Souvlaki Marinade:


  1. 3/4 cup balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing
  2. 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  3. 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  4. 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  5. 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves


Tzatziki Sauce (cucumber sauce): 


  1. 1/2 cup seeded, shredded cucumber
  2. 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  3. 1 cup plain yogurt 1/4 cup sour cream
  4. 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1/2 tablespoon rice vinegar 1 teaspoon olive oil
  5. 1 clove garlic, minced
  6. 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill 1/2 teaspoon Greek seasoning kosher salt to taste freshly ground black pepper to taste
  7. 4 large pita bread rounds
  8. 1 heart of romaine lettuce, cut into 1/4 inch slices
  9. 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  10. 1 tomato, halved and sliced 1/2 cup kalamata olives 1/2 cup pepperoncini
  11. 1 cup crumbled feta cheese


Chicken Souvlaki Gyro Style recipe Directions:


  1. In a small bowl, mix together the balsamic vinegar, juice of 1/2 lemon, oregano and black pepper 1/2 tsp. Place chicken in a large resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the chicken, seal, and refrigerate at least 1 hour.
  2. Preheat a grill outdoor high heat.
  3. Mix the grated cucumber with 1 teaspoon kosher salt, and let stand at least 5 minutes. In a medium bowl, whisk together yogurt, sour cream, lemon juice 1 tablespoon rice vinegar and olive oil. Season with garlic, fresh dill, and Greek seasoning. Squeeze the cucumber to remove excess water; Stir in the sauce. Season to taste with kosher salt and pepper. Refrigerate until ready for use.
  4. Remove chicken from marinade and place on grill prepared. Discard remaining marinade. Cook chicken until juices run clear, about 8 minutes on each side. Remove chicken from heat and let stand about 10 minutes before carving into thin strips.
  5. Place pita bread slices on the grill, and cook for 2 minutes, until heated through, turning frequently to prevent burning. Arrange hot pita, chicken slices, lettuce, onion, tomato, olives and pepperoncini in a serving dish. Serve tzatziki sauce and feta cheese on the side in separate containers. pita pockets matter with chicken and toppings to serve.
